Basdeo S. Persaud, also known as Shamie, died May 1, 2020, at Albert Einstein Hospital in the Bronx, NY. He was 77 years of age. Basdeo is survived by his wife, Kaloutie; his children, Nandini Persaud-Kesraj and her husband Rajanand and Reema and her husband Samlall Loutan; grandchildren, Mithrandir Loutan, Padma, and Ayrton Kesraj; his sisters, Caloutie Sahai and Gowrie Paul; and many nieces and nephews. Basdeo was born on August 6, 1942, in Georgetown, Guyana. He grew up in Scotland and return to Guyana to attend the University of Guyana. He was an educator at West Dem in Guyana and Queens College in Barbados. He migrated to New York in 1992. He worked as a teacher at Columbus High School. He then became a sales representative at Circuit City, where he later retired. Basdeo loved sports, especially cricket and soccer. He loved animals, especially Dia, his last cat companion. He loved spending time with his 3 grandchildren, especially cooking for them. He will be deeply missed. Due to the current CO-VIRUS 19 restrictions, the Funeral Service will be private at this time with the family participating only. Cremation will occur at Oxford Hills Crematory, Inc., Chester, NY.
