James F. Dutra a retired Sheet Metal Worker for 50 years with Local Union # 38 in Brewster, NY and a 19-year resident of the area, died peacefully at home on January 22, 2017, with his loving family by his side. He was 79 years of age. The son of Manuel and Henrietta Dutra he was born in Portchester, NY on January 28, 1937. James was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers the Local Union 38 retiree's club, St. Columba R.C. Church, Committee Chairman, Assistant Scout Master and then Scout Master for Troop 238 in Shrub Oak, NY and a joyful member of the Girls Gone Kayaking, Chester, NY. He was a very patient & loving man, who adored his grandchildren, Megan, Jimmy, and Kaitlyn. He loved to share his time with everyone, driving neighbors to doctor appointments, meeting children at the bus stop. "I was there to help anyone in need." James was an avid reader, enjoyed puzzles and crossword. He truly enjoyed spending time with family and friends and thought of everyone before himself. He is survived by is loving wife of 60 years Marie V. Tauro Dutra at home, his daughter Patricia and her husband Richard Rose of Chester, NY. His grandchildren Megan, Jimmy, and Kaitlyn at home also survive him. James'sister Henrietta Powell of New Smyrna Beach, Florida along with many nieces and nephews also survive him. He was predeceased by his son James F. Dutra, Jr and his brothers Manny and Bill Dutra. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2017, during the hours of 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, Inc., located at 3 Hudson Street, Chester, NY 10918. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 27, 2017, at 10:00 AM in St. Columba R.C. Church located at 29 High Street, Chester, NY 10918.
