Janet Lane Schmoldt (1940 - 2013) Janet Lane Schmoldt of Goshen, NY passed away on July 4, 2013 peacefully in her home under the loving care of hospice. Born June 1, 1940 in Philadelphia PA, Janet was the eldest daughter of Catherine (Kitty) and George Lane. The family moved to River Edge, NJ and Janet would later attend and graduate from Holy Trinity Catholic School in Hackensack. From an early age, Janet was inquisitive and independent, recalling how she would take the bus into NYC regularly to attend matinees. She loved the movies, theatre and over the course of her life participated in many extracurricular activities including modeling, acting, art collecting and astrology. After graduating from high school, Janet was employed at Bendix Corporation in Teterboro, NJ. She met her first husband, Dr. John F. Nitti, with whom she had two children - George Lane Nitti and Elizabeth Tedford, and lived in Washington Township, NJ. During that time, she also spent two years in Japan during the Vietnam War while traveling extensively in the Far East. In 1971 she met her second husband, Robert Schmoldt, to whom she was married happily for 43 years. They had two children together, Robert and Jason Schmoldt. Over the years there was nothing Janet loved more than getting out and enjoying living in Orange County, NY. In her later years she decided to go back to school and received her associates degree from Orange County Community College. For twenty years, Janet worked for the state of NY as a caregiver, retiring in 2009. Janet is predeceased by her husband Robert Schmoldt, her sister Cathy Michele, her four children and her four grandchildren: Finlay Tedford and Katherine, Caroline and Ben Schmoldt. She will truly be missed.
