John Robert Coyle, Jr.
Chester, N.Y.
John Robert Coyle, Jr., 83, affectionately known as "Coyle", "Pops" and "Poppy" passed away peacefully on Friday, April 1, 2022. We know that he lived an incredibly rich and fulfilling life surrounded by family. John was born in 1938 in Queens, NY to Anne Kilduff and John Coyle, Sr. There he met his loving wife, Mary Martin, whom he married in 1960 at Queen of Peace Parish where they began their journey eight years prior. He will be remembered affectionately by all as a kind and generous man with the sweetest smile for everyone whose path he crossed. John was dedicated to faith, family, and community. John and Mary could always be found sitting in the first pew at St. Columbas Parish in Chester or St. Johns the Evangelist in Goshen. John and Mary raised their five children in Surrey Meadows, since 1968, in a home overflowing with love, laughter and a healthy dose of shenanigans. John never had the chance to slow down as his role changed from Pops to Poppy with the arrival of his grandchildren who kept him and Mary busy throughout the years. He served in the US Naval and Army Reserves for close to twenty years and was a dedicated member of the NYPD where he served from 1963 to 1983. John served as a member of Chesters Volunteer Ambulance Corp, a member of the Chester & RCLS Library Boards, and served as a Fire Commissioner for the Chester Fire District. He will be remembered as a remarkable man whose creativity and ingenuity were matched only by his kindness.
He was predeceased by his younger brother, Thomas Coyle of Monroe, NY. We know for sure that he was greeted by a smile, a laugh, and definitely a joke by his beloved son Marty and Rosemaries loving husband, Mike, two amazing people, both of whom left us too early. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched, but none more than his loving wife of 61 years, Mary, and their children: Tom and his wife, Erin, Anne and her husband, Jim, Theresa and her husband, Matt, Willie and his wife, Janet, and Rosemarie - the Coyles "#6", their six grandchildren: Alex and his wife, Martina, Mary Kate, Maura, and her husband, Miguel, Emma, Connor and Charlie. As well as a host of cherished extended family, both both here and across the seas, and his dear friends and neighbors.
In honor of John and his incredible capacity for unconditional love and kindness, we ask that you take a moment to cherish your loved ones and speak his two favorite phrases: "GREAT LIFE" and "LOVE TO INFINITY".
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to Sepsis Alliance would be greatly appreciated. Donations can be made online at https://www.sepsis.org/ or mailed directly to 3180 University Ave., Suite 235, San Diego, CA 92104.
