Michael Prokopchak, a longtime resident of Monroe, New York passed away peacefully on November 5, 2014 at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, New York. He was 88 years old. The son of the late John and Helen Prokopchak, Michael was born in the year 1925 in New York City. On September 16, 1950, Mike married his beloved wife Julia to whom he was married for 64 years. Together, Mike and Julia raised four sons in Monroe. He was employed by New York City Telephone Company for over thirty years. Michael was a proud member of the ELKS BPOE 1097 of Middletown and a 50 year Mason and member of the Cornerstone Masonic Lodge # 711 of Monroe. He was also a life member of the Monroe Volunteer Ambulance Corp and he delivered Meals on Wheels. Mike maintained his trademark tenacity to the bitter end. Michael is survived by his wife Julia Prokopchak at home and by his sons Michael and wife, Nancy of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Peter and wife Carla of Pine Bush, New York; Robert and wife Marie of Middletown, New York; and William and wife Christine of Chester, New York. He is also survived by his eleven grandchildren Adam, Lisa, Cynthia, Philip, Susan, Michelle, Lauren, Gregory, Douglas, Colleen, and Brian; as well as nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his mother Helen and father John Prokopchak. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 9, 2014 during the hours of 4 to 8 PM at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, Inc., located at 139 Stage Road, Monroe, New York 10950. A Transconfiguration Service will be Celebrated on Monday, November 10, 2014 at 10 AM at the Church of All Saints of Russia located at 287 Jansen Road, Pine Bush, NY 12566. Afterwards, he will be laid to rest at the Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery located at 141 Sarah Wells Trail, Campbell Hall, New York. The family has entrusted Thomas F. Flynn and the staff of Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, Inc., 139 Stage Road, Monroe, New York 10950 with the care and supervision of the Funeral Services.
