Reynolds Farley Roe

January 5, 1924 — November 10, 2015

Reynolds (Bud) Roe went to be with his Savior on Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at his home in Westtown, New York. He was 91. Reynolds was born at home in Chester, New York on January 5, 1924 to Thomas B. and Margretta Farley Roe. On January 25, 1958, he married Audrey Hildebrand. He was a lifelong dairy farmer, at first on his family's farm in Chester and later, in Westtown, where he purchased the farm on which his own children were raised. He faithfully served as an elder and trustee at the Chester and Westtown Presbyterian churches. He served on the board of Directors of the Mid-Hudson Insurance Cooperative from 1976 to 1999. He was predeceased by his parents and his sisters Katherine (Kate) Williamson and Sue Copeland. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Audrey Hildebrand Roe; his son Thomas Roe and wife Sally of Canton, Pennsylvania; his daughters, Katherine and husband Mark Swyka of Westtown; Barbara and husband Robert Miller of Johnson; Amy and husband Desmond Baker of Westtown and Mary Beth and husband JosAC. de Ondarza of West Chazy, New York. He is further survived by his grandchildren: Timothy, Geoffrey and Deborah Swyka; Kadie and husband Joshua Christmas; Tyler and Hogan Baker; Thomas and wife Brooke Roe; Rebekah and Alison Miller and Joey and Benjamin de Ondarza. He is also survived by his brother, Reverend Nathaniel Roe of Washington, Pennsylvania; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Dad was a quiet, hard-working man who cherished his family and cared for the land. In retirement he loved to garden and turn wood on his lathe. He leaves us with treasured memories of camping trips across the country, working together on the family farm, and gentle teasing accompanied by a twinkle in his eye. He taught his children by example how to love and to live a life of faith. We are comforted by the sure knowledge that we will meet him and be with him in Heaven one day. Memorial contributions may be made to the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Westtown and Hospice of Orange & Sullivan County who lovingly cared for Dad in his final days. Cremation will take place at Oxford Hills Crematory, Inc., Chester, New York. Services will be held at the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Westtown on Friday, November 27, 2015 with Pastor Robert Keene presiding. Visitation will be held at 2:00PM followed by a service of remembrance at 3:00PM. Funeral arrangements and the cremation service have been entrusted to Thomas F. Flynn and the staff of Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, Inc., 3 Hudson Street, Chester, New York.
