Sean Patrick Franklin July 30, 1965 to May 22, 2017 Monroe, NY Sean Patrick Franklin passed away unexpectedly, on May 22, 2017 in San Angelo, Texas. He was 51 years of age. Sean was a longtime resident of Chester, NY, and moved to San Angelo, Texas in August, after spending several years of his retirement around his family, in San Diego, CA. Sean was born in White Plains, NY on July 30, 1965 to Henry and Janice Franklin. From an early age, he already started emanating qualities of his hard work and selflessness. He grew up in Thornwood, New York. He worked numerous jobs as a young man starting at age 12, at the Holy Name of Jesus Rectory. From the age of 12 until he retired, Sean never stopped working. Sean graduated from Westlake High School in Thornwood in 1983. Shortly thereafter, on October 31, 1983 he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. After he served his country, he received an honorable discharge, and pursued his dream job. On July 5, 1989, Sean became one of New York's Finest, as an officer with the NYPD. He worked vigorously through the ranks to become an undercover officer, and eventually earned the rank of Detective. Sean then became a homicide detective. Later, in his career he was appointed as a detective, with the Special Victims Unit, where he remained, until he retired. He was a 9/11 first responder, and worked day and night to aid in rescue, recovery, and identification efforts of those lost. Sean was an avid sports fan, and always kept up with his favorite teams: the New York Yankees, New York Giants, and for the past few years, regained his interest in hockey as a fan of the New York Rangers. He also shared a love for music and would often call himself, "The 2nd Tallest Deadhead," next to Bill Walton, due to his stature, and his love for The Grateful Dead. Sean is survived by his loving wife, Tanya Franklin; his four sons, Brendan, Patrick Franklin, Christopher and Jonathan Gregory. He is further survived by his mother Janice Franklin and husband Michael Rehill; his brothers Matt Gardner and wife Joann, Mark Gardner and wife Polly; His sisters Siobhan (Bonnie) Franklin and husband Lee Roistacher, Norah (Kiki) Franklin and husband Howard Blevins; his favorite mother-in-law Loretta Melcher; several cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family. He also leaves behind, so many of his Brothers and Sisters in Blue. His father, Henry Franklin, predeceased Sean. Sean's unwavering love of his family and friends is incomparable. His positive attitude and sense of humor touched so many, and his ability to tell a story, is unmatched. He will be truly missed. A Memorial Service will be on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 during the hours of 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the Flynn Funeral and Cremation Memorial Centers, Inc., located at 139 Stage Road, Monroe, New York 10950. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, on June 6, 2017 at 12:00 pm at St. Anastasia Catholic Church, located at 21 North Main Street, Harriman, NY at 12:00 pm.
