Stanley H. Englert

July 18, 1933 — January 26, 2019

Stanley H. Englert passed away January 26, 2019, at home. He was 85 1/2 years old. The son of Elsie and John Englert, he was born on July 18, 1933 in Queens NY. Stan grew up in Brooklyn NY and graduated from Franklin K. Lane High School. He was in the United States Army and served during the Korean War. He worked for Alcoa Aluminum Company and then later for the NYC Transit Authority as a bus driver in Queens NY, retiring in 1984. He was an active member of the VFW Post 8540 (serving as Commander), The Glendale Catholic Club in Glendale NY, and The Order of the Sons of Italy in the Bronx. He was a member of the Mended Hearts, a support group for individuals suffering from heart disease. He often visited patients in the hospital who were undergoing heart surgery, after his own heart valve replacement surgery in 1991. Stan loved fish and fishing, and enjoyed spending time at his family's summer home in Rockaway NY and his cousin's summer home at Lake Taconic NY. Stan also loved bowling and was a member of the Zodiac Bowling League at Laguardia Lanes for many years. Those who knew Stan knew what a kind man he was and what a big heart he had. He would do anything for anyone. He loved spending time with his family and treasured his many friends who became family too. He always made sure to keep in touch with everyone. He is survived by his wife Mary, at home; his daughter Diane Vasti (Frank) of Monroe, NY; son John Englert (Margaret) of Melbourne Florida; daughter Gina Hartmann (Danny) of Goshen NY; and eight grandchildren - Nicole and Melissa Vasti; John Englert (Brittany), Thomas Englert, Lauren Crozier (Don), and Kristin Englert; Kaitlyn and Matthew Hartmann; and three great grandchildren - Charlee-Jayne, Kaiden, and Hailey, all of whom were the light of his life. He is also survived by his brother John (Marie) of Hamilton Township, NJ.and sister in laws Angela Stoker of the Bronx and Mary Scandura of Boca Raton Florida. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and friends who loved him very much. Stanley was predeceased by his sister, Maybella (Mabel) Fredericks of Falls Church Virginia. A Special thanks to Dr. Robert A. Wolfson for taking such good care of our father for the past 30 years. He has truly become family to us. And thank you to Dr. David Ramos and his office and staff, Dr. Deogenes DeLeon, and Dr. Barry Sussner for helping to care for dad during these last few years. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan County, The Veterans Association, and The American Heart Association. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 1, 2019, during the hours of 3:00 to 9:00 PM at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, Inc. 139 Stage Road, Monroe, NY 10950. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart R.C. Church, located at 26 Still Road, Monroe, NY 10950. Interment will follow, with Military Funeral Honors, at Orange County Veterans Cemetery located at 111 Craigville Road, Goshen, NY 10924. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Brendan T.
