Bernard Sol Ampel of Monroe and Cornwall, New York, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, and a 46 year resident of the area, died at home on October 16,2020. Bernie, who was 84 years of age, lived a remarkable life. He was born in the Bronx in 1936 as the child of immigrants, and brought his warmth, loving nature, kindness, guidance, generosity and support into the lives of everyone fortunate enough to have known him. He will be profoundly missed and his family will endeavor to carry on the beautiful way in which Bernie embraced and shared his love with others. In his later years he enjoyed taking classes and teaching at the Desmond Center, where he made an extremely close circle of friends who loved and supported each other. Bernie was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Sophie Ampel. He is survived by his children Glenn and his wife Randi Metsch-Ampel, Terri and her husband Mitchell Kayden, Karen and her husband James Knox, and Allen and his wife Kathleen Ampel. He is also survived by his adoring grandchildren Dylan Metsch-Ampel, Elana and her husband CJ Anderson, Joshua and Jacob Kayden; and Emily, Samantha and Allie Ampel and his much-loved sister, Ruth Goldstein.
