Dennis Tracey was born on March 12, 1949, in Yonkers, New York, to Elenor Powers and Dennis Tracey. He was one of three brothers, alongside David and Edward, both of whom predeceased him. A longtime resident of Chester, New York, Dennis built a life centered around his family, his community, and his dedication to education.
Dennis Tracey, a devoted educator, husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on August 16, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Dennis dedicated 33 years of his life to education with the Haverstraw-Stony Point School District. Throughout his distinguished career, he was deeply committed to his students, his fellow educators, and the community he served. For the final 16 years of his career, Dennis proudly served as President of the North Rockland Teachers' Association, advocating tirelessly for teachers and public education. He also served as an At-Large Director on the Board of New York State United Teachers.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dennis's greatest joy was his family. He shared more than 53 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Diane. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and countless memories.
Dennis was the proud Father of two daughters, Alanna and Brianna, who were a constant source of love and pride throughout his life. He was also a cherished grandfather to five grandchildren, John, Joanna, Colin, Shea, and Luke, who brought immense happiness to his life.
His legacy will live on through the countless students and educators whose lives he touched, and through the family he loved so deeply.
He will be dearly missed and forever remembered by his wife, Diane; daughters, Alanna and Brianna; son-in-law, John Bahri; grandchildren, John, Joanna, Colin, Shea, and Luke; and all of the family, friends, colleagues, and students whose lives were made better by knowing him.
