James J. Finnegan III

d. April 23, 2024

Monroe, New York

James J. Finnegan III, born in New York City, passed away on April 23, 2024. He had lived in Monroe for the past twenty years. James was known for his extensive career in law enforcement, beginning as a Police Officer in the 47th Precinct, progressing to the Bronx Task Force, and eventually serving as the NYC PBA Bronx Trustee.

One of James's proudest accomplishments, besides his family, was his dedicated work assisting fellow New York City Police Officers as an NYC PBA Bronx Trustee.

James was also present at the collapse of the World Trade Center on 9/11 while assigned to the Bronx Task Force.  James unselfishly spent hundreds of rescue and recovery hours at the recovery site in NYC and subsequently developed WTC illnesses like many other first responders, which ultimately caused his death. James was a member of Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Monroe, NY, a member of New York City Police Department Emerald Society, the Fraternal Order of Police Jason D. Conklin Memorial Lodge 957, the Sons of the America Legion Post 488, Monroe, NY and the Joseph Duelk, Jr., Division 1 Ancient Order of Hibernians, Monroe, NY.

James was caring, loving, and protective throughout his life. He found joy in working at O'Toole's and formed close relationships with many of the patrons who came to consider him family.
James will be dearly missed by his surviving family and friends, including his wife Shana Finnegan, daughter Madeline Finnegan, son James Finnegan, Father James J. Finnegan Jr, brother Raymond Finnegan, sister-in-law Jessica Finnegan, nephews Kieran Finnegan and Ronan Finnegan (who was also his Godson), sister-in-law Tiffany Cwynar, brother-in-law Aiden Cwynar, nephews Wells Cwynar and Van Cwynar, brother-in-law Michael Bullis and sister-in-law Kapook Bullis.
