Remembering Jeanne Marie DiNoia Hali

 With deep sorrow, we announce that Jeanne Marie DiNoia Hali of Salisbury Mills, NY, passed away peacefully at home on July 31, 2026, surrounded by her family. A beloved mother, Nonni, aunt, cousin, friend, and devoted caretaker of animals, Jeanne was born on December 3, 1941, in Staten Island, NY, to Margaret “Peggy” McInerney DiNoia and Ferdinand “Doc” William DiNoia, DDS. 

Family

  Jeanne is survived by her daughter, Kirsten Jeanne Hali Wilson, and Robert Wilson of Rock Tavern, NY; her son, Christian Jan Hali, and his children, Asher and Josephine Hali, of Santa Barbara, CA; her cousins Betty Ann Tynan King (David), Richard King (Jennifer), Robert Tynan (Kathy), and Kathleen DiNoia Sajkowski (Vincent); nieces Cheryl Adams Tracewell, Lauren Hali Parzych, and Erica Hali Conk; nephews Mathew and Nicholas Myslenski; brother-in-law Martin H. Hali (Jane); many dear friends; and her beloved cats, Sunshine and Callie.

 In additon to her parents, Jeanne was predeceased by her former husband, Hendrik Jan Hali III, whom she married on November 21, 1964; her aunts Betty McInerney Tynan (John) and Louise DiNoia; her uncle Annibale “Nebo” DiNoia (Faye); her in-laws Ariaantje and Hendrik Hali Jr.; sisters-in-law Sjaan “Jane” Hali Smith and Rinske Elizabeth Hali; cousins Paul and John DiNoia; nieces Astrid Adams, Felecia Harris, and Aileen Adams; and nephews Derek Adams and Hendrik Jan Hydrick. 

Education and Career

 A lifelong seeker of knowledge, Jeanne was a proud alumna of Notre Dame Academy and the College of Notre Dame on Grymes Hill, Staten Island—now part of St. John’s University’s Staten Island campus—where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. She cherished her Notre Dame years, her favorite instructors, and the friendships she carried forward, attending reunions whenever she could and always enjoying the chance to reconnect with her classmates. 

Jeanne began her career in science working in cancer research at Charles Pfizer Pharmaceuticals in Maywood, NJ, until the birth of her daughter, Kirsten. Soon after the family moved to Salisbury Mills, NY, in the Town of Cornwall, they welcomed their son, Christian. 

Jeanne loved the arts and music and was an exceptionally talented artist. She painted in oils and watercolors, drew with pastels and pencils, decorated ceramics, and designed and painted decorative elements throughout the family home, including original hand-painted ceramic tiles and an interior wall mural. She also wrote, hand-lettered, and illustrated an adorable children’s book titled Sig the Ig. 

She was also a talented seamstress, sewing clothes for herself and her children. The Revolutionary War-era costumes she made by hand ahead of the U.S. Bicentennial in 1976 remain the stuff of family legend. 

 Her musical tastes were wide-ranging, from the Bee Gees, Boston, and The Who’s rock opera Tommy to Mozart’s The Magic Flute, the Flower Duet from Léo Delibes’s Lakmé, Leonard Cohen, the original Broadway production of Man of La Mancha, The Pointer Sisters, and Luciano Pavaro ’s iconic performance of Nessun dorma from Puccini’s Turandot. 

Love of Nature, Learning, and Exploration 

Throughout her life, Jeanne encouraged and supported her children’s interests in the performing and creative arts, music, and a deep respect for all sentient beings. Enamored with nature and its creatures, she never met a cat or dog she would not help or did not love. She also loved watching and feeding the birds, squirrels, opossums, raccoons, and other wildlife that shared her property in the Town of Cornwall. 

When her children were older, Jeanne returned to the workforce and proudly dedicated twenty-seven years to preserving and protecting the environment as Lab Director of the Orange County SD #1 water treatment facility in Harriman, NY. She retired in 2007. Family, former colleagues, and friends still remember her dashing through the laboratory in her lab coat.

 Creativity, Music, and the Arts

 Jeanne was active in many study groups and societies, including the Liberal Catholic Church of America, the Orange County Psychic Experiences Group, l’Ordre de la Mère du Monde, and the Theosophical Society of America.

 An avid reader, Jeanne especially loved Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City series and every published work by Stephen King—and Richard Bachman, of course. She also loved to travel, experiencing the life-affirming cultures and people of France, Belgium, Holland, Spain, Bermuda, England, and destinations across the United States. She often recalled with fondness her childhood summers spent with her mother’s family in Gloucester and Rockport, MA, places that remained lifelong favorites of hers and became beloved destinations for her family as well. 

With Gratitude

 Our family extends heartfelt gratitude to the team at Hospice of Orange and Sullivan for helping ensure Mommy spent her last days at home—comfortable, safe, and surrounded by those she loved and who loved her dearly. Thank you for supporting us through the most painful task we have ever faced. We loved her deeply and are proud to have had the honor of bearing witness to her journey and holding her safe, just as we did for Daddy when he passed on April 20, 2025.

 We also thank every member of Team Jeanne, whose kindness and care for our mom—and for us—will never be forgotten. IYKYK. You are family to us, and you know who you are. Thank you especially to Darlene Shaffer, Margharita Tirado, Heidi Mirecki, Greg Mirecki, Christine Bacigalu Pi, and Michael Warnon. There are no words. We are also grateful to everyone who visited, sent love and prayers, and supported Mom and our family as we walked with her. We also thank Megan, Jimmy, and Brendan of Flynn Funeral Home for the care and professionalism with which they assisted our family.

Celebration of Life and Memorial Donations

 A celebration of Jeanne’s life will be announced later this year. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jeanne’s honor may be made to the Humane Society of Blooming Grove, the Hudson Valley SPCA, Friends of the Feathered and Furry Wildlife Center, or the New York State Humane Association. Always loved, never forgotten.
