May Sagaria

September 18th 1927-November 5th 2023

Passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.

May was a true native Staten Islander, growing up in West Brighton. Her education took her to PS18 and McKee High School, where she shined brightly as the captain of her cheerleading squad, graduating with the class of 1945. May went on to become a talented seamstress and also work for the NYC Parks Department retiring in 1990.

In 1960 she married her beloved husband, Daniel Sagaria and moved to Grant City shortly thereafter. May enjoyed traveling with her husband and family to Italy and California, where they had a home in Palm Springs. She also enjoyed trips to Atlantic City, spending her time at the slot machines.

May cherished her time with family and friends and especially enjoyed feeding them her delicious home cooked meals and her signature raisin meatballs. If you were lucky enough to engage in conversation with her, she’d tell you stories of her life (wearing her age as a badge of honor) and the good ol’ days, and about how wonderful the people she loved were.

Survived by her loving son Frank DiAngelo and wife Ann of Rhinebeck; two grandchildren, Frank DiAngelo (Diana) and Danielle Christiano (Michael); two great-grandsons and many nieces and nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her husband Daniel Sagaria, her brother John Licata and sister Sue Thaisz.

May was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and steadfast matriarch of her family. She has had a profound impact and will be deeply missed.

Brendan and Thomas Flynn will provide cremation care at Oxford Hills Crematory, Chester, N.Y. Burial of cremated remains will take place at a later date.

Funeral arrangements have been placed within the care of the Flynn Family and staff of Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers.
