Thomas J. McCarthy of Monroe, NY, a longtime resident of the area, died at his residence on November 15, 2023.
The son of the late John and Helen McCarthy, he was born in New York in 1935.
Tom was a retired Communications Professional.
He was active in the Sacred Heart Outreach Program, Our Father's Kitchen, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians Joseph Duelk, Jr. Division 1, Monroe, New York.
For the years of dedicated work to the Irish Community, Tom was awarded by being selected as the 2023 Grand Marshal of the Mid Hudson St. Patrick's Day Parade. His simple acts of kindness were the hallmark of his character.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Patricia A. McCarthy, and their four daughters, Claire Berich (Terry), Kathleen O'Neill, Karyn McCarthy, and Kristin McCarthy (Evan Spiegel).
He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Dana Kennedy, Helen Curry, Erin Cahoon, Thomas O'Neill, and Shaye Spiegel, along with six great-grandchildren: Lawson Kennedy, Graham Kennedy, Desmond Curry, Ophelia Curry, Riley Cahoon, and Rory Cahoon.
Tom was pre-deceased by his brother, John J. McCarthy; he is survived by his sisters, Mary Jeanne Wilson (widow of Col. Robert D. Wilson, retired USMC) and Catherine McCarthy.
Visitation will be on Sunday, November 19, 2023, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm and Monday, November 20, 2023, from 8:30 am to 9:30 am at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, 139 Stage Road, Monroe, NY 10950.
A Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart R.C. Church, 26 Still Road, Monroe, New York 10950.
Cremation will follow under the immediate care and supervision of Brendan and Thomas Flynn at Oxford Hills Crematory, Chester, NY.
