Walter P. Sorocka

Born in 1952, Walter Sorocka was the cherished only son of Dora and Walter Sorocka. Sadly losing both his parents far too soon Walter surely made them proud by graduating Summa Cum Laude from Fairleigh Dickenson University in 1975.

Moving from Bergenfield to Chester, Walter's kindness enabled him to find friends that became family in his neighbors next door and within the Bruderhof community.

A vinyl music aficionado, Walter's extensive collection encompassed the best of 60's music and more. Walter loved to ride his motorcycle, and there wasn't a road on the entire East Coast that Walter could not share his expertise on. When it was time to park the motorcycle, Walter enjoyed becoming a member of the Orange County Mineral Society, visiting sites and working tables at various events to share his knowledge. Walter also found relaxation taking long walks in the wilderness by himself.

Walter was a reverent Catholic, a parishioner at St. Columba Roman Catholic Church in Chester, serving on the executive board of the Knights of Columbus.

He was a caring nephew, predeceased by Peter Servilio, Gino Servilio, Lily Donato, Eva Milovich, and Stella Miers. Walter spent much time with his Aunt Stella during the 1970s and 80s, enjoying dinners and exploring sites throughout the North East together.

He was a beloved cousin to Don Miers, Eilene, and husband Angelo Papa, Robert Henkel, Myra Donato, Thomas Donato, and his wife Maryanne.

Walter will be greatly missed by his extended New Jersey family but always remembered for his kind eyes, sense of humor, and arms full of Italian struffoli, Panettone, and Ferrero Rocher chocolates at each and every celebration.

As we gather to honor and remember Walter, a wake will be held on February 13, 2026, from 4 pm to 8 pm at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, 139 Stage Road, Monroe, NY 10918. A Life Celebration honoring Walter’s life will be held at 7 pm.

Funeral Mass will be held on February 14, 2026, at 10 am, at St. Columba R.C. Church, located at 27 High Street, Chester, NY. Burial will follow at St. Columba R.C. Church, 3335 NY-94, Chester, NY.

Friends and Family will have the opportunity to share their memories and pay their respects during the visitation.

The care of Walter has been entrusted to the Flynn Family and staff at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Center. In this time of sorrow, the Family appreciates any condolences, as they reflect on a life so beautifully lived.
