Wow. Where to start? I don't know. I have made many friends in my life. But none like the ones that I grew up with. Those friends and the memories we had , I will never forget. Perry was one of those.
So many fun times. Whiffle ball. Riding our Stingray Bikes. Playing baseball cards. Shooting marbles. It never ended. Perry and I had a toy sale. We took all of our toys we never played with anymore, and set up tables to sell them. If we only knew how much they would have been worth today. But it wasn't about the money. It was about a childhood adventure. Rebuilding the "haunted" house , down by clay pond, countless times. Burning strands of nylon rope, trying not to get burned with the drips of melting, flaming rope. Meeting in the morning to go down the river to fish. Hunting for aluminum cans to bring back to Barneys for their deposit money.
Somehow we (and a few other guys) built a boat. We carried it over to Doules Pond, and guess what? It floated. We christened it the S.S Scumbag. I think on acct the water in Doules was basically a cesspool. Sleep outs, you know, where we all said we were at the other guys house? but we just stayed out all night. Reading comics in Plunketts garage by candle, when it was 10 degrees outside.
I could go on and on. Making hot chocolate and bringing it over to Bradens hill and go sledding. Ice skating on the roads. Going down the glen. Playing basketball until our fingers bled.
So many good times. Perry was there through all of it. his dry humor. his sarcasm. his heart. At some point in our childhood, Perry and I played together for the last time, but we didn't know it. We were growing up
We got jobs. Had families. Went our separate ways. Every once in a while we would see each other, and have a beer. We always picked up right where we left off.
I will never forget you Perry. Thank you for being a part of my life.

Ahh the memories. I met Perry in 1970 when moving to the village. Living in the same neighborhood we soon became friends. We spent countless hours with the other locals playing football, baseball, basketball behind the elementary school, at Bradens and in front of the village library. We would go fishing down the river and exploring down at the glen. We would ride our bikes as far as they would take us which wasn't that far. We were on the soccer team in high school and although our win loss record was not so good, many forgot to read the rule book and half the fun was taking out the opposing player with a sliding tackle. Soon we became familiar with the local watering holes, low point , Ridge Road, 8th hole, The Foolery, Willow Ave Inn, Toms Tavern, etc and we spent many a dollar supporting local businesses. Later in life I had the opportunity to attend your wedding with Cathy and soon after you started a family. We spent vacations together down the shore where you enjoyed reading your book in the shade while imbibing a beverage in the big daddy chair. Watched Matt and Riley  grow up to become young adults and you and Cathy become proud grandparents. Our friendship lasted 48 years. Friends for Life became our groups motto. Thanks for the memories.
